Everything you need to know about the Mosaic Camera Bag

Designed to elevate the everyday, we sat down with our talented Design team to delve a little deeper into what makes the Mosaic Camera Bag a stand-out bag for the season.

  • What was the original idea behind adding a Camera Bag to the Mosaic range?

After the resounding success of the Mosaic collection launch last Autumn, we wanted to give our customers a more casual silhouette that complimented the Mosaic collection, whilst highlighting key characteristics in a relaxed and fun way.

  • What makes it a part of the Mosaic family?

The Mosaic collection was originally inspired by the works of Eduardo Paolozzi, a Scottish artist, and his sculptural and graphic artwork. You’ll notice the Camera Bag boasts the same geometric shaped flap as the rest of the collection and that the hardware and leather also echo that of the Mosaic Top Handle, Shopper, and Tote. She’s part of the family but think of her as a casual sister!

  • How does the Mosaic Camera differ from the Mosaic Top handle bag?

Whilst this is another crossbody bag style, the Camera Bag has been designed with more practicality in mind. Its zip closure makes it more secure and functional, whilst the external compartment really does allow for quick and easy access your phone or transport card during a busy day in the city.

  • How long did the Camera Bag take to design?

With all new silhouettes it can take months of design before prototypes and samples are even made. Everything needs to be considered, from the size of the bag itself and the length of the strap, to sourcing the correct zips, hardware and ensuring it is fit for purpose. The great thing about being based in our Edinburgh Townhouse is that we are never short of volunteers for testing new handbags!

  • Were there any notable challenges during the design stages?

During the initial stages of design, we really wanted to work with the music bar hardware to create a bespoke closure on the front compartment. We drew up multiple different versions of what this might look like, creating varying prototypes to trial.
Five versions of the pocket were produced but, in the end, it became apparent that the magnetic closure was the most practical and fit the brief perfectly. It allows the wearer to be truly handsfree on the days where you’re constantly on the go.

  • Can you tell us a little about the materials used?

We had such great feedback on the Ciervo leather used across the rest of Mosaic family styles that we didn’t want to make any drastic changes to materials for the Camera Bag. The supple, grained leather lends itself to the come-what-may practicality of the bag and works well to soften what could be considered a somewhat boxy and structured silhouette.

Designed to fit all of life’s little pieces, explore the Mosaic Camera Bag and the rest of the collection in the latest seasonal colourways below.
